Frog blog 9

Our last frog seems to be holding up OK, our other frog died a bit back so the food has been adjusted for it, all we need is for the frog to last until Christmas and we will consider the study a success. we also drained the tank, cleaned the filters

Our Frogs are still Healthy and the tank is clean, they are receiving adequate proportions of food for the size of them. we have switched to feeding them frozen bloodworms as the dry food has run out. water levels in the tank are an issue likely with the heater, which is relatively warm due to the frogs being used to a warmer climate. the frogs don’t seem to be under stress as stress can lead to death in them.

UA Monster Calls – Final Blog

I was close with the prediction I made in the last blog. Conor did do something about his social issues but not what I had expected. I was also close in predicting Conor would fight with his grandmother. What really happened was Conor destroyed his grandmothers living room while believing he was in the monsters story. The last story was Conor’s to tell, it was about how he could finally let go and accept his mother dying. When he woke up from the story his grandmother took him to the hospital where he sat with his mother as she passed. I think this was a relatively effective way to end the novel as I never saw it coming until the end, although I would have liked to know what happened after with his father and grandmother and school. I liked the way small illustrations were included in the pages as it helped give the book a darker tone and the third person narrative helped give me an idea of what was going on thanks to all the actions being written out. I think the author was quite effective in writing this story because I did find myself intrigued at points however sometimes the author was ineffective at providing crucial details, I still enjoyed the book however. I would recommend this book to people with a lower reading level as it is a shorter book with less words per page than most large novels, this story would mostly appeal to boys as it’s about Conor and a monster however I think females could find interest in it as it deals with emotions alot. As an easy read lots of people would like it however because I’m a pretty advanced reader I found it quite short for my liking.

A Monster Calls – Blog 2

From page 66 to 119, Conor goes through a lot of emotion. He is still waiting for another visit from the monster. Conor believes that he has called the monster to help his mother with her worsening cancer. The monster says he was called to listen to Conor tell his story. His goal so far, is to help eliminate the cancer his mother has. He is trying to make sense of these visits and see if the monster will really help him to achieve this goal. Conor faces many conflicts. He is being constantly bullied at school by a kid named Harry, and his gang of goons. Conor’s “friend” Lily also spread the word his mother has cancer and he has become a social outcast because of it. He also faces internal conflict in that he is unable to figure out the story the monster wants him to tell. Conor is living with his grandma and this is an issue because she is not a typical grandmother. She is very professional and does not like anything out of line. I think what will become of these conflicts, is that Conor will do something to counter his social issues. His bad relationship with his grandmother will cause them to fight. I can personally relate to this because when I moved to a new town and school, I had nobody I knew or was comfortable with for a while.

A Monster Calls

This is a story revolving around conor and a monster that talks to him in his dreams. Conor is a 13 year old boy living with his mother who has cancer. In the first third of the book it talks about how Conor is a social outcast due to everyone knowing about his mother having cancer. During the night Conor is awoken by a monster claiming Conor called him. He says that he will tell Conor a story. Conor doesn’t believe its real but when he wakes up the next day there are leaves on his floor. the tree later returns and tells him a story of how a prince and farm girl run off to escape the wrath of a wicked Queen, and how she was killed by Queen. the town sets a mob after the Queen to kill her but the monster saves her. Conor is shocked that he saved the Queen but the monster says that the queen was innocent and the prince killed the girl to frame the Queen.

Frog blog 3

Our frogs are still doing OK however there was an unfortunate loss, one of them disappeared and we have been unable to find any trace of it. The tank is still quite clean so the remaining two still seem healthy and are receiving portions of food relative to their size. Breeding of the frogs is unlikely as we think it was the male who died.
