A Monster Calls – Blog 2

From page 66 to 119, Conor goes through a lot of emotion. He is still waiting for another visit from the monster. Conor believes that he has called the monster to help his mother with her worsening cancer. The monster says he was called to listen to Conor tell his story. His goal so far, is to help eliminate the cancer his mother has. He is trying to make sense of these visits and see if the monster will really help him to achieve this goal. Conor faces many conflicts. He is being constantly bullied at school by a kid named Harry, and his gang of goons. Conor’s “friend” Lily also spread the word his mother has cancer and he has become a social outcast because of it. He also faces internal conflict in that he is unable to figure out the story the monster wants him to tell. Conor is living with his grandma and this is an issue because she is not a typical grandmother. She is very professional and does not like anything out of line. I think what will become of these conflicts, is that Conor will do something to counter his social issues. His bad relationship with his grandmother will cause them to fight. I can personally relate to this because when I moved to a new town and school, I had nobody I knew or was comfortable with for a while.

  1. Hunter, this blog has addressed all of the questions, but I am wanting to know more. Please make sure that you are providing discussion for the reader to show your comprehension and analysis. I look forward to reading a longer post as your novel concludes.
